  Procaine Hydrochloride was first synthesized in 1905 by a German chemist Albert Einhorn. He was looking for a compound that would act as an anesthetic, would be non-toxic, free of side effects, and would not be addictive. Dr. Einhorn was looking for a compound that could replace cocaine as an anesthetic. Cocaine was being used at the time as an anesthetic. However, because cocaine was toxic, addictive, and destructive to the central nervous system, its use was being outlawed. Dr. Einhorn was able to produce a compound that demonstrated the properties he was looking for. This new compound he named procaine. "Pro" means, in place of, and "caine" comes from the word cocaine. Because of the similarity of the names and because they are both anesthetics, there is much confusion as to the nature of procaine. Procaine when injected into the muscles acts as an anesthetic but when taken orally in a complexed form procaine acts as a vitamin. Procaine HCl solutions, used as anesthetics, are tradenamed Novocaine.
  

  
  

  Chemically procaine is the PABA ester of the amino alcohol DEAE. PABA (p-amino-benzoic acid), is a "B" vitamin. DEAE, (n,n diethylaminoethanol) is a biologically active precursor of the "B" vitamin choline. (Fig. 1) Procaine is usually used in the form of the hydrochloride salt (procaine HCl) because it is highly water soluble. Procaine hydrochloride, when taken orally, enters the body by being mainly absorbed through the villi in the small intestine. Experiments show that the bulk of the procaine HCl enters the bloodstream molecularly intact. In the blood stream procaine HCl is rapidly hydrolyzed by the enzyme pseudo-cholinesterase into PABA and DEAE the two components of the procaine molecule. These metabolites are removed by the liver, chemically changed, and excreted in the urine.
  

  
  

  In the late 1940's Dr. Ana Aslan a Romanian cardiologist found that adding a small amount of benzoic acid to the procaine solution stabilized some of the procaine enough to protect it from the blood enzymes. This protected procaine which Dr. Aslan named Gerovital H3 or GH-3 was found to be very helpful in supplying PABA and DEAE to damaged and\or diseased cells. Ana Aslan named the procaine vitamin H-3. GH-3 is listed under H-3 in the Merck index.
  

  
  

  Procaine HCl when combined with biologically active acids(1) such as folic acid, biotin,ascorbic acid, pantothenic acid, citric acid and many other acids such as amino acids etc., acts as a vitamin or food supplement. The vitamin acids and other biologically active acids when complexed with the procaine HCl molecule protect the procaine from the enzymes in the blood allowing the procaine to enter the cells. These vitamin complexes help the cells assimilate and utilize nutrients more efficiently.  
  

  
  

  Procaine HCl (procaine hydrochloride) is the active ingredient in Gerovital H3 (GH-3) and 3 through 8. Procaine HCl is broken down rapidly by enzymes in the blood stream into PABA and DEAE. The PABA and DEAE are rapidly conjugated and removed from the blood and excreted from the body. Because of this procaine HCl and its breakdown products (metabolites) are unable to get into the cells in any great quantity to produce benefits. Procaine HCl will produce some benefits by itself, but they are very limited.

  
  

  However when procaine HCl is complexed properly (Koch process)(1) the procaine HCl is protected from the action of the enzymes in the blood and tissues this protection gives the procaine enough time to be transfered into the cells of the body where it helps the cells rebuild, repair, and detoxify. This action of the procaine HCl complex is responsible for the remarkable improvements in health that result from the use of GH-3 - 8.
  

  
  

  Many companies claim to make GH-3. Based on my testing the only GH-3 procaine HCl based products that contain the active GH-3 factor or properly complexed procaine HCl are Ana Aslan’s injectable GH-3 through 8 produced by Some companies are totally fraudulent in their claims quoting Ana Aslans case studies and my case studies and research to validate their products which contain no procaine HCl or its complexes. Their products contain PABA and DMAE which they claim produce procaine in the body. This is false because procaine contains no DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol). In fact the DMAE when it enters the cells of the body is broken down and is oxidized producing by products (metabolites) that are damaging and toxic to the cells i.e formaldehyde and methyl alcohol). Whereas the DEAE (diethylaminoethanol) from the procaine HCl breaks down in the cells and is oxidized producing acetyl groups that are very valuable for producing acetylcholine and other materials necessary for cellular health. 
  

  
  

  Other companies produce GH-3 and similar products that contain procaine HCl and the other ingredients necessary to make GH-3 and the other formulations and list them on their labels but they do not have a valid product. They mix the dry ingredients together and tablet them or put them in capsules without first forming the procaine complexes. I like to use the example of making the candy called fudge. Fudge contains sugar, cocoa, condensed milk, butter and a pinch of salt. If you mix all of these together you have the correct formula but you only have a gritty cocoa in canned milk with a chunk of butter far from being Fudge. However if you cook the ingedients to the soft ball stage and then allow it to cool , then beat it properly to the right crystalline structure you end up with a delicious delight called fudge.
  

  
  

  Procaine Based Nutriments (PBNs) as I prefer to call the procaine HCl complexes or GH-3 factor must be formed or the product won’t be very effective in helping cells heal and overcome their problems. Effective GH-3 products in tablets or capsules containing PBNs will show on their labels not only the correct ingredients but they will also show the patent numbers(1) of the Koch process for forming the complexes of procaine.

  Q. Does GH3 have side effects?

  A. Through the 32 years of research and usage it has never shown side effects.

  Q. Does it interfere with other medication?

  A. Where other medication has a sulphur base (some antibiotics for instance)

  GH3 has been found to neutralise them.

  Q. Can you overdose with GH3?

  A. Research shows that even when subjects were given 60 times the normal

  daily dose they suffered no side effects. Bear in mind that when a product is

  "natural", that is to say its active ingredients are natural to the body, the immune

  system provided by the body will eliminate unrequired excess quantities.

  With an "unnatural" product (many drugs for instance) the body has no defence

  against them and may well suffer irreversible damage and even death.

  Q. GH3 is sold at different prices, why is this?

  A. Basically it can be sold (like any other product) at whatever price the

  distributor wishes, however it is worth bearing in mind that a "cheap" version of

  a medication often indicates corners have been cut in the manufacturing process.

  The process is equally as important as the ingredients if not more so.

  Q. Will GH3 cure cancer?

  A. Research shows that subjects first treated with GH3 successfully indicated

  a strengthening of their immune systems. It does not indicate that GH3 "cures"

  Whilst the F.D.A. have stated they do not object to people "having GH3 for their

  own use" they have prosecuted store owners for selling it. The official mentality

  was never restricted by considerations of common sense.

  Q. Will a person suffer a reaction when commencing on GH3?

  A. Research shows that some have a mild headache and slight feeling of

  nausea for 2 to 3 days. This is explained as arising from the system “adjusting

  to the new input and in particular being "cleaned out" by the antioxidant element

  of GH3.

  Q. What in GH3 causes depression to go away?

  A. The depression in old people is often caused by a build up in the brain of a

  substance short titled MAO, this is a vital substance to the body's correct

  function but when it is present in excessive quantities depression is automatic.

  The DEAE factor in GH3 balances MAO out to a correct level thus raising the

  depression. It is the only "safe" product capable of doing this without damaging

  the mechanism which produces MAO (see Research Reference following this

  chapter).

  Q. Does GH3 "hype" me up?

  A. According to research it is not a stimulant in that sense. Many patients have

  reported a feeling of mild euphoria following the lifting of depression (which is

  what you might expect). They have stated they "feel good" and better able to

  cope.

  Q. At what age should one commence taking GH3?

  A. According to Professor Aslan babies should take it "It could only do them

  good". However the fact is most people would consider the obvious benefits

  commence on reaching the age of maturity, say in the early twenties,

  when the

  normal decline begins. However the best age to commence would be 50+ and of

  course age is not relevant if the reason for taking GH3 is because of any health

  problems.

  Q. Can pregnant women take GH3?

  A. According to Professor Aslan GH3 will not pass the placenta barrier, which

  she considers unfortunate because "it could only benefit the unborn infant."

  However as it will stimulate the healthful condition of the Mother this in itself

  will obviously benefit the baby indirectly.

  Q. Can children take GH3?

  A. There are many researched instances of this occurring, usually as a result

  of some unnatural condition (skin complaints, asthma etc.). As we all consist of

  "cells" no matter our age, and as GH3 feeds the body at cellular level it

  obviously matters not what the age factor might be though a reduced amount

  would be indicated..Should the body receive more than it requires it will

  eliminate the excess according to Aslan.

  Q. Which are more beneficial - injections or tablets?

  A. According to Professor Aslan injections have a more immediate result, the

  GH3 passing the blood-brain barrier within seconds. But the tablets have a more

  thorough going effect as they also stimulate the intestinal tract to do its work

  efficiently, produce more vitamins and folic acid. Obviously the rate of

  absorption is slower with tablets than with injections.

  Q. Is the GH3 phenomena nothing more than the "placebo effect"?

  A. In individual cases the placebo effect is a factor in all forms of medication

  and treatment - dependent on the patients susceptibility to suggestion. Obviously

  GH3 is no different in this respect. However as research shows conclusively that

  many patients suffering from complete senility have "come back" to total mental

  recall after receiving GH3 it is reasonable to assume that the placebo effect was

  not present in their cases, they had in effect no "mind" on which it could work.

  Q. Does GH3 have benefits in neurological diseases?

  A. See the researched list in chapter 3. There are many recorded cases of

  significant benefits with this type of problem. GH3 appears to have a particular

  affinity for nerve tissue and has on many occasions achieved results (without

  side effects remember!) in advance of alternative treatments. (Aslan 1972)

  Q. Is there more than one type of GH3?

  A. No, Dr. Aslan's formula has remained the same for over 30 years, as it is

  not known why it works, only how, it is of course difficult to improve upon it

  without hit or miss experimentation. There are however slightly different ways

  of introducing it to the human body (see ZELL H3). In West Germany a product

  "KH3" is manufactured and in certain respects has similarities with GH3 though

  the basic formula is significantly different and carries a weaker supply of

  procaine.

  Q. What is the correct description for GH3, is it a drug or a vitamin?

  A. It is neither. It is specifically a nutrient (that is to say a food) which

  operates in exactly the same manner as any other food, i.e. by being absorbed

  into the .circulatory system thereby enriching the blood in a manner which

  stimulates cellular growth and well being, thus strengthening the myriad systems
